Updating your look for autumn is easy when you know what to look out for. Here’s our glamorous guide to must-have pieces for the season.
The long view – shapes and shades
Autumn sneaks in something for everyone. Soft, drapey fabrics of the 70s are reworked to be ultra flattering and kind to curves. 50s and 60s Mad Men influences give a more tailored, body-con shape for those with a waspish waist. Colours are easy and varied. Go bright if you want. Jewel hues look great on tailored, 50s inspired dresses. Red is all the rage. Or stick to soft autumnal bronzy neutrals. Madison Avenue style browns, tans and camels are perfect with summer nudes still going strong.
1 Wide-leg trousers
In line with the huge 70s trend, the new trouser shape is wide and long. This look is surprisingly flattering and gives a great leg lengthening effect. We like these soft, drapey jersey palazzo pants from Love Label. This is laid-back style to a tee. Add a pretty top and platform heels or wedges.
2 Perfect pleats
Pleats are a big trend this season and this belted pleated dress from Love Label works them to perfection in a ladylike 70s inspired design. Fun and feminine with a pussycat bow, super-flattering shape and fluid sleeves.

3 Statement coat
The right coat gives years of warmth and style. This season there are so many to choose from. Our on-trend favourites include this gorgeously cosy shearling coat with coin detail in autumn’s favourite taupe, South’s dramatic black utility maxi coat and this ultra glam faux fox fur coat.
4 Skinny belt
The new season’s silhouette is all about the waist. A slim belt instantly updates a fine knit, a dress or even a tailored jacket for a skinny price. Pick black patent or go a little wild with this fabulous animal print belt.

South Myriel Cuffed Ankle Boots
5 Ankle boots
They’re cosy but less restricting than full length boots. We adore the grey version of these South Myriel cuffed ankle boots. They’re so versatile. Wear with jeans. Add an edgier look to a dress and opaque tights. Easy.
