Time travel style: fabulous vintage trends for autumn

Christmas, Dresses, New Trends, Womens Clothes | October 29th, 2011 | By: Sue

There’s a hint of autumn in the air and we’re busy planning our wardrobe essentials for when the temperature drops. Vintage looks are all over the collections this season with designers plundering bygone decades from the 20s to the 70s. There’s something for every age, shape, style and size with looks that are wonderfully retro but very now.

20s and 30s eleganceLove Label bird print vintage dress

This classic tea dress by Love Label whisks you back in time to the understated elegance of the 20s and 30s. This is a strong look for the new season as designers hark back to a softer, more feminine silhouette with silky fabrics in soft prints and faded florals. The bird print here is divinely on trend in tune with the mood for country house chic. More tea, vicar?

50s beatnik

The 50s starlet is a major trend for autumn. Think Harlem-inspired swing skirts, cute belted knits and cropped jeans. Stripes and polka dots are key and the shape is all about the cinched waist. We can’t wait to get into these cute cropped jeans and classic black polo with a pair of kitten heels.

60s silhouette

Very retro, so now. Our Love Label vintage wide sleeve lace dress is perfect for a special occasion. We love the subtle intricacy of lace in a soft nude with dramatic wide sleeves. The shape and shorter length has a real sassy 60s vibe. If you’re lacking leg confidence, add opaque tights and a heel.

70s diva

Everyone needs great jeans and these South Mason bootcut jeans have a flattering shape with a generous flare to balance hips. Wear them over your shoes at floor-skimming length for a leg-lengthening effect and a 70s vibe.

Our love affair with denim never fades and this denim jacket from South has a fabulously lived in look. It’s right on trend for this season’s love of tough, wearable fabrics including denim, moleskin and brushed textures. Wear it over dresses and mix with feminine prints to give an outfit edge.

Madison Avenue style

South Madison Belted 70s Vintage Coat

This coat by South is retro chic at its best.

Our fit and flare belted coat from South sums up the 70s with its soft edged collar and works a sophisticated Madison Avenue look over wide leg tailored trousers or a cute mini. In perfect retro colours: classic camel or seasonally rich mulberry. Add a spray of Charlie and a Farrah Fawcett flick and you’re rocking that 70s luxe vibe!
